At the opening meeting held on 29.06.2021, Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank emphasized the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on work, business environments, and technologies.
He stated that; where the current skill and talent sets will not be able to meet the needs of the next period as a result of emergence of new business areas, we must direct our workforce to the right skills and talents, that is, to the jobs and professions of the future." Varank highlighted the importance of focusing on areas such as an agile approach and different working and learning models. Varank also mentioned that Istanbul Development Agency (IDA) will provide national coordination of the program, aiming to develop solutions for improving existing skills and enabling individuals without job fields to gain skills in new business areas. The management of the program will involve a Business Leaders Group comprising Ministers, WEF, and private sector executives. Regarding Turkey's demographic advantage, Varank stated, "Our advantage is that we have a very young and dynamic population compared to the world," emphasizing the need to align human resource potential with the competencies required in the new world order. Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Bilgin stressed the necessity of human-centric development, saying, "It is imperative to design development in human dimensions, to design work by taking into account human freedom without forgetting human and human reality."
Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk highlighted the 30-month cooperation basis of the program, stating, "Students will improve their skills in areas such as social media, programming, and digital design."
Saadia Zahidi, Director General of the World Economic Forum (WEF), participated in the meeting and underlined the global perspective of the initiative, stating, "We will benefit from the experience and know-how in the world and the examples of successful practices of countries at the highest level."
